A fire destroyed a medical equipment warehouse in Northern California and sent thick black smoke pouring into the sky Thursday and prompted evacuations of other nearby facilities as authorities fought to get the blaze under control.

Firefighters responded to a massive fire in Tracy, California, that left a 1 million-square-foot medical supply distribution center in ruins and sent large plumes of black smoke and debris into the sky.

A fire was burning on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. and was not immediately threatening any structures. No evacuation orders or warnings have been issued but Oceanside police advised residents in the area to monitor Genasys Protect for updates.

It's been just days since firefighters reached full containment of the 18,379-acre blaze on Santa Rosa Island. Crews are now assessing the damage.
